New ways: KinderUni lecture on intercultural cooperation

The KinderUni (children’s university) lecture held on 21 January in the main lecture hall at FH JOANNEUM focused on things to be aware of when people from different countries come together to work, talk or study. The young people attending the lecture showed great interest in learning about the cultural differences in various countries around the world. .

Doris Kiendl-Wendner, head of the International Management degree programmes, used practical examples to show that behaviour regarded in Austria as “the norm” may actually be viewed quite differently in other countries. Amongst other things, the young researchers learned through role play scenarios that in some countries being late is not regarded as bad manners at all or that you should never offer alcohol to a business partner from a Muslim country.
