FH JOANNEUM has been nominated 'Young Designer of the Year' 2012

Benjamin Julian Toth, graduate of the Industrial Design degree programme at FH JOANNEUM developed a yacht concept that won a prize against strong international competition at the prestigious “Show Boats Design Awards” held in Monaco on 22 June 2012.

Shipping companies, design agencies and yacht owners from all over the world gathered at the Monte Carlo Opera House on 22 June 2012 for the presentation of the Show Boats Design Awards. Benjamin Julian Toth scooped the “Golden Neptune“ award in the category “Young Designer of the Year“ for his design “ReSeadence 50“ and received 5,000 euros in prize money. A jury of experts selected Toth’s design from entries from all corners of the globe. The young designers had been set the challenge of converting a former industrial fishery vessel into a luxurious yacht. The requirements of the fictitious new owner included among others sun decks, pools, stowage for tenders and cabins for guests and crew. Benjamin Toth impressed the jury by leaving the original hull of the vessel practically unchanged and re-interpreted it with a characteristic split-colour scheme and created a dialogue between old and new with an architecturally inspired upper part. The jury stated: “The Young Designer of the Year Award once again attracted an extremely high standard of entries from aspiring yacht designers all over the globe. Benjamin Toth’s design convinced the jury as he converted the industrial vessel into an innovative yacht, which includes elements of the original vessel, while also emphasising novel design features and an avant-garde appearance”.
