Course content

The students learn basics of investment and financing, basics of financial mathematics, static and dynamic methods of investment calculations, critical comparison of evaluation criteria The core contents include: [1]: Financial mathematics: Interest calculation, calculation of annuities, redemption calculation [2] Time value of money: time line, golden rules, interest rates [2] Views of investment and financing: traditional vs capital market-oriented view [3] Fisher model: Perfect capital market [4] Static and dynamic methods of investment calculation; comparison of evaluation criteria [5] Connection of Finance and Accounting; relevant cash flows in the investment calculations [6] Forms of financing [7] Comparison leasing, buying, renting The digital competences of the participants will be promoted in the course by the application of the learned contents in state of the art software (Excel, R, Python, etc).

Learning outcomes

The students are able to solve financial mathematical calculations, know methods used for investment calculations and use them to calculate the profitability of investments and interpet the results. The students distinguish between different forms of financing. The graduates of the module know the important bank- and insurance products, the Austrian bank- and insurance industry, the national and international conditions in Austria and they understand whose functions and duties in the economic context.
