Leadership and Motivation

Course content

This course focuses on methods of effective leadership and team motivation. A general introduction is followed by considerations specific to team leadership in a professional setting.

The core contents of this course include:
[1] Leadership methods;
[2] Motivational techniques;
[3] Alignment of interest; incentive schemes;
[4] Work-life balance.
Optional contents can include:
[5] Role plays, e.g. performance reviews; students shall receive feedback on their performance during simulations;
[6] Further development of students' portfolios of competencies.

Learning outcomes

Successful participants in the module have detailed knowledge of communication techniques and are able to apply these in their professional practice, e.g. during client meetings, speeches or product presentations. They are aware of their capabilites, such as their strengths and weaknesses, and can use this awareness to further develop their qualifications and skills. Participants are familiarized with methods of effective management and team motivation. They can perform effectively in a team setting and are output-driven. This module is taught in small groups to support the individual development of methodical and personal competences.

Post completion of this module, students have improved social and leadership skills which they can apply in their professional practice, for example, when overseeing team projects or motivating team members, during the continual development of personal qualities and skills, and in change management.
