Analytic histology

Integrated course, 3.50 ECTS

Course content

Specialist hygiene and safety measures; pre-analysis: specimens, posting conditions, methods of transport, transport of specimens , reception and labelling of specimens, tissue preparation; preparing for macroscopic investigation, fixation methods, decalcification, embedding and storage of tissues, methods of embedding and replacing water, types of microtomes and cutting sections, cutting techniques, processes of staining and analysis, mechanisation possibilities, quality management, microscopic assessment of sections regarding cutting and staining quality and histomorphology, documentation, data sheets, validation and interpretation of the results.

Learning outcomes

The students have basic knowledge of the necessary morphological assessment of human cells, tissues and organs at their disposal. The acquired basic theoretical knowledge enables them to make a structural differentation between human tissue and organs. They are able to produce histological preparations by fixing, embedding and pouring. Different cutting and dyeing techniques as well as the assessment of histological sections on their quality are conveyed.
