Biomedical Science

Placement 1

Work placement, 3.50 ECTS

Course content

Application of methods and techniques of clinical chemistry in a hospital laboratory with the aim of putting the basic knowledge and methods of biomedical analysis into practice.
Getting to know work routine as students of biomedical science within a study programme at the university of applied sciences, communication with patients and their families, reflection of the individual learning progress; write-up and documentation of acquired knowledge.

Learning outcomes

The students apply the knowledge about methods and techniques previously gathered in the study laboratories in different specialist fields of biomedical science. They are able to improve their approach to work, to test their results and to release the findings. They enhance their knowledge of analytical processes and reflect upon their own competence. In the different placement periods the students get to know different work places and have to meet different learning objectives appropriate to their knowledge level. They can choose methods, apply techniques, link information and explain contexts. Case-based studies help them to suggest further diagnostic measures. They are able to interpret findings, make validity checks, and are able to criticize their findings according to the quality criteria.
