Medical and scientific ethics

Course content

Definition of morals and ethics, legal aspects and norms and their relationship to each other; theories and principles of ethics; ethics committee, patient solicitors, job ethics in transplantation, research, reproductive medicine, intensive care , palliative care, socioeconomical aspects, animal experiments; man and technology.

Learning outcomes

The students are familiar with scientific literature data bases. They dispose of reading strategies to master the reading of literature in English. The students can summarize essential knowledge from biomedical literature in their own words and know the rules of correct referencing. They know the difference between primary literature and secondary literature as well as their most important quality features (e. g. impact factor, peer review). They know essential basics and methods in quality management and project management. They are aware of the importance of quality assurance in routine diagnostics; they acquire the ethical fundamentals of medicine and scientific research as a basis for professional responsibilty. The students are able to provide and present a poster for their research project in English language.
