Biomedical Science

Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry

Integrated course, 3.00 ECTS

Course content

Theoretical foundations of selected topics related to chromatography and mass spectrometry (liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry) in order to understand the principles associated with chromatographical separation, sample preparation, injection, column selection and detector settings.
Optimization of chromatographic conditions for separation and detection of target analytes.

Learning outcomes

The students apply the knowledge about methods and techniques previously gathered in the study laboratories in different specialist fields of biomedical science. They are able to improve their approach to work, to test their results and to release the findings. They enhance their knowledge of analytical processes and reflect upon their own competence. The students are to be solved in the situation by means of gas chromatography and liquid chromatography, analytic dividing problems and to carry out basic quantification and identification experiments by the coupling of classical detectors (FID, UV. . . ) and mass spectrometry detectors. They know bases and ranges of application in the nuclear medicine.
