Compliance and Data Privacy

Course content

This course is designed to help students understand the relationship between core business and internal IT. Deriving from general aspects of business governance, specific aspects of IT governance are elaborated. Various tax- and reporting systems are discussed in relation to compliance, risk management and IT service management. In some sub-areas reference is made to frameworks such as COBIT, which are placed in context and discussed on a broader scale. The objective of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of Austrian data protection law.

Learning outcomes

The students should be given a first structured overview of the principles of general business administration, management techniques and the foundations of data protection law. Ethical reflection and the assessment of the consequences of technological developments are an integral part of modern societies. They form essential elements of social and political discourses. The seminar should offer a deeper analysis of the complex relationships between the areas of technology - society - economy and ethical considerations. The participants are introduced to the basics of applied ethics, in particular to the different approaches of descriptive and normative theories in the context of technical ethics.
