Course content

The course gives an overview of the profession of dietitians as well as the corresponding legal basics. In addition, the reference sciences and the determinants of nutritional behavior are highlighted. Furthermore, there will be an introduction to scientific work with a focus on literature and literature research. In addition to the classic lectures, the various contents as well as the cooperation within the interdisciplinary team are developed by means of problem-based learning on the basis of concrete case studies and questions.

Learning outcomes

• gain an insight into the history, development and reference sciences of dietology and work out a comparative international perspective of the professional field
• are familiar with the duties and competences of dieticians and can relate them to the main focus of their training
• know the job description of dietitians in Austria, legal basics and professional regulations according to the MTD law
• know about health processes and interdisciplinary cooperation (interfaces, demarcations)
• deal with national and international professional representations and associations
• gain a first insight into determinants of nutritional behavior
• get to know the dietetic process as a method
• become familiar with various types of scientific literature and literature research in libraries and their catalogs
