Course content

This introduction to statistics provides fundamentals of descriptive statistics, probability and parameter estimation. Students acquire an understanding of bivariate statistics and inference statistics using the example of chi-square tests; fundamentals of implementation using statistical software; understanding and interpretation of statistical terminology through reading of scientific articles; on completion of the course students are able to perform simple evaluations and to assess scientific articles in terms of simple statistical methods.

Learning outcomes

Students learn to engage in lifelong learning and continuing training to constantly adapt their knowledge and skills to the latest medical scientific findings in order to ensure high professional quality and contribute to the further development of the profession.

On completion of the module students will be able to:
--> research current scientific findings at a national and international level;
--> research current scientific findings at a national and international level in accordance with the requirements of evidence-based practice and interpret research papers in their discipline;
--> formulate research issues relevant to the subject;
--> select and implement relevant scientific research methods and process the data acquired to answer subject-specific questions;
--> use scientific findings and phenomena for professional and scientific development;
--> elaborate on specific topics of dietetics and case studies in their bachelor thesis using scientific methods.
--> implement the knowledge obtained in research, science, industry and the restaurant sector and perform therapies in accordance with professional and scientific findings and experiences.
