Course content
This course takes place once a week and integrates the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and emphasizes oral communication and listening comprehension in a culturally authentic context.
Learning outcomes
On this course, you will learn how to …
• greet others and introduce yourself
• ask someone how they are and say goodbye
• communicate in class
• ask what country someone comes from and answer this question
• state your nationality and which languages you speak
• give your telephone number and email address
• state what your occupation is
• talk about where you work and live
• ask for the reason for learning Portuguese
• place an order at a restaurant
• read and understand a menu
• shop for food items
• name quantities, weights and prices
• offer, accept or reject an invitation
• make a phone call
• name the days of the week and the time
• talk about leisure activities
At the end of the course, you will be familiar with the following grammatical structures:
• present tense of the most important verbs
• personal pronouns and greetings
• plural
• pronunciation (e.g. nasal vowels)
• masculine and feminine forms of adjectives
• negation
• interrogatives qual, onde, de onde, quando, quanto, porque, o que ...
• expressing time with há
• immediate future
• gostar de
