The little raindrop

Picture books are part of almost every household’s basic book collection. They accompany children from birth, and act as a communication guide along the road to a good level of speaking and reading. Through them, children get to know their environment and learn to notice details, think spatially and interpret feelings.

This thesis provides an overview of the history of the picture book, as well as its pedagogical value, and analyzes visual design methods. Special attention is paid to language awareness, and how multi‒lingual picture books are beneficial to children. In addition, the author’s own bilingual picture book is layouted and illustrated.
