Lisbon’s reputation as a city of design is already spreading. Nonetheless, a reputation is often more illusion than reality. This master’s thesis provides an in‒depth analysis of Lisbon’s design scene, and investigates the question of whether the city has really earned this reputation, and actually is a Mecca for design lovers. The heavily internationally oriented design scene is explained through the historical background of the country as well as the development of design, and a bridge is built to the status quo of design in the city.
The analysis of the current design scene provides insight into the formula for success which has helped Lisbon attain its good reputation. At the same time it serves as the basis for the creation of the design guide. Unbelievable, but true: such a guide has not actually existed until now.
