E-Learning Service

Electronically supported teaching and continuing education

The E-Learning Service Team of ZML – Innovative Learning Scenarios is the central hub and competence centre for e-learning at FH JOANNEUM, opening up new ways for innovative and flexible (online) teaching. Our key aim is to promote and network our clients and to provide them with professional advice and support.

Who are we and what do we stand for?

Our multidisciplinary team provides advice, support, training and research in the fields of online teaching, e-didactics and the use of new media and technical tools with the aim to firmly establish digital learning in teaching practice. Our work is tailored to our clients (lecturers, students and administrative staff) and their needs. Our strength lies in providing quick and efficient solutions to their questions and problems.

Who is our target group?

Our services are addressed to lecturers, students and administrative staff at FH JOANNEUM as also to teaching staff and trainers from other universities (wishing to get) involved in digital learning and teaching. We provide our clients with training, support and advice individually and in regular online trainings and online workshops.

What are our competencies?

We have broad expertise and long standing experience in using technology for didactic purposes. This includes learning technologies, visualisation in learning processes, technical video production and digital learning (e.g. MOOCs), game-based learning, online networks, e-moderation and lifelong learning in didactics. Our courses create self-reflective learning experiences for our participants enabling them to consolidate the knowledge acquired. We develop learning designs promoting open and emergent learning processes.

What services do we offer?

Our team provides support for students, lecturers and staff and offers flexible and practical technical-didactic online trainings (TeDis), online workshops and online courses on current topics and trends in e-learning. And last but not least, we also create professional, bespoke videos for teaching, research, business and marketing.

Our online workshops give participants an insight into current topics such as “Comics as a structural/reflection/motivation tool in (online) learning processes”, “Miro – visual cooperation in teaching/training”, “The art of e-moderation”, “Motivation in learning processes” or “(Online) portfolios as reflection and assessment tools”.

In our online courses, which run for several weeks and follow a hands-on approach, participants deal with selected topics such as “Videos in (academic) teaching”, “E-Moderating – certified training according to Gilly Salmon“ and “Online Didactics”.

We host and support the Moodle learning platform which is the central e-learning infrastructure of FH JOANNEUM, ensuring smooth study processes and high-quality online teaching. This provides central data storage and also opens up a range of activities for configuring interactive and tailored learning scenarios. Students and lecturers are provided with valuable tips and tricks for working with Moodle by the broad range of video tutorials and learning videos our team creates on a continuous basis.

The E-Learning Day – the conference for trends in e-learning

Our annual E-Learning Day has been a great success for over 20 years and is now more relevant than ever. It provides an opportunity for experts and interested parties to meet and share their views on current and future e-learning trends.
