Scientific Computing 2023 6

On May 12, 2023, the scientific conference “Scientific Computing" will take place for the first time at FH JOANNEUM, University of Applied Sciences, in Graz.

Be part of the conference, benefit from the expertise and input of our high-ranking keynote speakers, and learn from the scientific work and presentations of young scientists.

First, the internationally renowned Big Data expert Viktor Mayer-Schönberger from the University of Oxford will dedicate his keynote to the academic aspect of Scientific Computing and illustrate how Scientific Computing is changing the world. Our second keynote speaker Astrid Schober, CIO of Wien Energie, and graduate of the FH JOANNEUM programme "Information Management" (now "Business Informatics"), will elaborate on how Big Data can secure the energy supply in a practical and application-oriented manner.

By participating you will gain insights into current scientific issues that are presented in paper and poster sessions. Use the conference to deepen your knowledge, get to know new fields of work, and finally, for networking. At Scientific Computing 2023, everyone interested in topics surrounding Scientific Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Data Science is welcome.

Students from universities and schools as well as members of co-organizers get a reduced conference fee. Use the opportunity to gain conference experience and expand your knowledge!

Participation fees:

Regular price: 90 EUR Early Bird until March 31, 2023: 70 EUR Reduced participation fees for students, and members of co-organizers: 15 EUR, Early Bird 10 EUR

Submission:

There are two formats of submission within the conference that address different stages of scientific work.

Presentation and Paper: Presentation of (at least largely) completed research paper in an approximately 15-minute time slot, followed by a Q&A session. Besides, a short scientific article that is published in an electronic and printed version of the conference proceedings (according to the template; guideline: four to eight pages incl. all appendices) sums up the main findings of the work.

Poster presentation:
This format is especially suitable for ongoing or early-stage research. The project and its preliminary results are presented in the course of a "poster session". For this purpose, an A0 size poster should be prepared, which (reduced to A4 size) will also be included in the proceedings. In addition, completed research work that is suitable for a practical demonstration may also be presented during the "poster session". The conference’s primary language is German; submissions are accepted in both English and German. Before the paper or poster is submitted, the work’s suitability for the conference will be assessed based on a short submitted abstract.

Reviewing:

The review process is divided into two stages: First, the basic suitability of the work for the conference is evaluated based on a submitted abstract. A positive evaluation then leads to an invitation for submitting the final paper or poster. After submission, all papers and posters will be assessed by a jury of experts in the form of a peer review. If the number of submissions is too high, the organizing committee reserves the right to reassign submission of the format “presentation and paper” to the format “poster presentation”.

Deadlines:

Submission deadline for the format “presentation and paper”: February 15, 2023 (decision of jury: March 2023) Submission deadline for the format “poster presentation”: March 15, 2023 (decision of jury: April 2023)
