Dr. and DI must be placed before the name; all other academic designations (BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MAS, MBA, etc.) must be placed after the name.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple degrees are to be cited as such. For example: Mag. Gender-inclusive, gender-neutral and non-discriminatory designations must be used and adhered to in all university documentation. Using gender-inclusive language helps promote greater equality in society. In written forms of address, use only the most important academic title;<\/p>\n<p>Example: Dear Professor Doe.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, use only a person&rsquo;s name unless further descriptors are judged appropriate.<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"programmes\" class=\"wp-block-text-content margin-bottom-normal\">\n    <div class=\"container-lg\">\n        <div class=\"row\">\n            <div class=\"col\">\n                <h3><strong>Degree programmes, academic degrees and functions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4>Degree programmes<\/h4>\n<p>FH JOANNEUM offers the following programmes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree Programmes<\/li>\n<li>Master&rsquo;s Degree Programmes<\/li>\n<li>Master Certificate Programmes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In official letters, the terms Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or Master&rsquo;s degree programme are used &ndash; in accordance with the designations in Austria&rsquo;s University of Applied Sciences Act (FHG).<\/p>\n<p>The term &ldquo;programmes&rdquo; is used as a collective term for the respective courses of study offered by FH JOANNEUM (Degree Programme and Study Tracks).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Academic Degrees<\/h4>\n<p>According to the provisions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ris.bka.gv.at\/NormDokument.wxe?Abfrage=Bundesnormen&amp;Gesetzesnummer=10009895&amp;Artikel=&amp;Paragraf=6&amp;Anlage=&amp;Uebergangsrecht=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FHG (&sect; 6 (2)),<\/a> the academic degrees and their abbreviations are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree Programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor of Arts &hellip; (BA)<\/li>\n<li>Bachelor of Science &hellip; (BSc)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Master&rsquo;s Degree Programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master of Arts &hellip; (MA)<\/li>\n<li>Master of Science &hellip; (MSc)<\/li>\n<li>Diplomingenieur:in&hellip; (DI)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>each with the name of the relevant subject group.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jusline.at\/88_F%C3%BChrung_akademischer_Grade_UnivG.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&sect; 88 (2) of the Universities Act (UG)<\/a>, the academic titles &ldquo;Mag.&rdquo;, &ldquo;DI&rdquo; and &ldquo;Dr&rdquo; must precede the name; all other academic abbreviations are placed after the name and separated by a comma.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<p>DI Dr Jane Doe, BSc MA<\/p>\n<p>FH JOANNEUM adheres to the provisions of the Universities Act (UG) and the Universities of Applied Sciences Act (FHG) and the requirements of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmfwf.gv.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research (BMFWF)<\/a> with respect to the use of academic titles.<\/p>\n<p>The use of the academic title is an entitlement that the holders of the degree may exercise or not, as they wish.<\/p>\n<p>The academic titles &ldquo;Mag.&rdquo;, &ldquo;DI&rdquo; and &ldquo;Dr&rdquo; must precede the name; BA, BSc, MA and MSc degrees, as well as degrees awarded by Master certificate programmes, are placed after the name and separated by a comma (unless otherwise specified, e.g. on forms).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Abbreviations<\/h5>\n<p>FH JOANNEUM uses the abbreviated form of academic titles. The abbreviations correspond to the requirements of the BMFWF.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor of Arts \/ Bachelor of Science &hellip; BA\/&hellip; BSc<\/li>\n<li>Master of Arts \/ Master of Science &hellip; MA\/&hellip; MSc<\/li>\n<li>Diplomingenieur:in&hellip;.DI<\/li>\n<li>Doctor &hellip;Dr<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When abbreviating academic titles, no visible distinction is made between male and female. Gender is included in the abbreviation and can be derived from the first name or salutation.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, FH JOANNEUM documentation does not use a special designation of the feminine form by adding &ldquo;a&rdquo; (Mag.a) or &ldquo;in&rdquo; (DIin, Dr.in).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Multiple degrees<\/h5>\n<p>Recommendation: Limit the use of multiple abbreviated titles to informal use. In formal lists, multiple titles should be listed as such.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<br>\nMag. Mag. As a rule, students need to decide this at the beginning of their studies, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master&rsquo;s degree programme in Business Informatics with the study tracks IT Architecture and Software and Digital Experience Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree programme in Construction Design and Economics with specialisations in Architecture and Civil Engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where a text focuses on a particular study track (for example, presented individually on the website), the study track can also be referred to synonymously as &ldquo;programme&rdquo; where it has previously been identified as a study track in a particular degree programme.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Formatting<\/h4>\n<p>The names of the degree programme, institute, department or specialisation are formatted as standard text (no emphasis).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Continuous text and bulleted lists<\/p>\n<p>In continuous text, bulleted lists, or where the degree programme is used as a heading, it must be named directly. Quotation marks should not be used.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Electronics and Computer Engineering degree programme has existed since &hellip;<\/li>\n<li>Electronics and Computer Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Industrial Design<\/li>\n<li>Communication, Media, Sound and Interaction Design<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The names of the departments must also be written without quotation marks in continuous text, for example, the Department of Applied Computer Sciences. Any deviations are made to support the company&rsquo;s interests and its public image.<\/p>\n<p>The &ldquo;+&rdquo; (plus) sign is placed in front of the country code.
