Christian:<\/strong> Doris, you spent the summer semester 2025 at ICD Business School in Paris. Looking back – what made this study abroad semester so special for you?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> I learned how quickly a foreign place can become a home when you have the courage to approach people openly. I was surprised at how easily I could meet new people – and how quickly encounters turned into deep friendships. In Paris, I discovered new ways to be open with others, to be spontaneous, and just try things out. “Put yourself out there and take everything in”<\/em> – that was kind of my motto. I grew a lot during this time because I had to take care of everything myself – from finding an apartment to handling everyday challenges.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> That sounds like an intense experience. You mentioned everyday challenges – what was particularly difficult?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> A particularly formative experience was my acute appendectomy in Paris. At first, everything was hectic and overwhelming. But I learned to stay calm, accept help, and navigate a foreign healthcare system. Even though it wasn’t a pleasant experience, it showed me how capable I am of handling such situations.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> Beyond these personal experiences – what inspired you academically at ICD?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> The New Models of Management<\/em> course was particularly exciting. We critically examined current management trends like remote work, liberated companies, or the role of the Chief Happiness Officer. It wasn’t just about buzzwords, but about truly understanding management trends, their origins, and their impact on corporate culture. Topics like Gen Z in the workplace, mental health, and changing leadership styles in a VUCA world made me reflect deeply.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> That sounds like a very thoughtful approach to modern management. Were there also more practical courses?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> Yes, I took hands-on courses like International Product Launch and Budgeting<\/em>, where we simulated real market entry strategies and developed business plans.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> You also focus on entrepreneurship in your studies. Were there opportunities in Paris to connect directly with the startup scene?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> During my semester abroad, I often studied in a small café right next to a startup hub – not only for the affordable cappuccino but also for the inspiring atmosphere. One day, I struck up a conversation with a founder who shared his business idea with me and spontaneously let me test his website. I was able to give direct feedback on whether I, as a user, could navigate and understand the concept – that was a special moment because I realized how open and hands-on entrepreneurship is in Paris.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> Did you feel that the attitude toward entrepreneurship in France differs from ours?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> What impressed me most: In France, almost everyone seems to pursue something of their own alongside their main job – a creative project, a side business, or freelance work. This mentality of not limiting oneself to a single role but pursuing your own ideas really inspired me and strengthened my desire to work independently in the long term.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> And did you take any concrete project ideas from this experience?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> During my time in Paris, I regularly visited the inner-city flea markets. They are not only very popular but also create a unique atmosphere, combining sustainable shopping with social interaction – right in the city center, accessible to everyone during the day. This concept immediately fascinated me because it shows how conscious consumption and vibrant urban life can go hand in hand. Inspired by this, I developed a concept for the sustainable revitalization of Graz city center and presented it to Mayor Elke Kahr.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Christian:<\/strong> If you had to decide again today whether to do a study abroad semester – would you do it again?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> The study abroad semester opened up new perspectives for me – both professionally and personally. Living in a foreign city showed me how enriching it is to embrace new experiences and stay flexible. The experiences there motivated me to continue my path with an open mind and creativity.<\/p>\n

Christian:<\/strong> And finally, your personal highlight?<\/p>\n

Doris:<\/strong> In the fashion capital Paris, I decided to tackle a major item on my bucket list – to try my luck in the fashion industry. As soon as I made that decision, doors opened that I could hardly have dreamed of. I was signed by a French agency, walked at Paris Fashion Week, did shoots for Vogue<\/em> magazine, and had the opportunity to work with Cartier. These experiences showed me that so much is possible when you dare to try new things and are ready to seize opportunities.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
