How can a fa\u00e7ade be transformed into a living, talking medium? Students of the Interaction Design Master’s at the FH JOANNEUM addressed this question as part of the \u201cPower of Urban Interfaces\u201d project.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The focus was the BIX media façade<\/a> of the Kunsthaus Graz – an urban display at the interface of art, technology and urban society since 2003.<\/p>\n

In close cooperation with the Kunsthaus Graz<\/a>, the students developed new design approaches that made it possible to experience the BIX as an interactive medium in public space. This was more than just visual design: the projects question familiar forms of media presence and open up new possibilities for merging digital and analog communication.<\/p>\n

After several workshops and a public test run on the façade, a total of nine projects were submitted. The great interest in visually clear, retro-inspired aesthetics, emotional appeal and formats that enable direct – and physically tangible – interaction with the building was striking.<\/p>\n

The selected project “BIG EYES” by Elina Dorzhieva, Veronika Poštrak and Genovefa Zourkou addresses precisely these aspects: Two large-format eyes gaze searchingly across the façade – restless and attentive at the same time.<\/p>\n

The project was supervised by Birgit Bachler<\/a> “Project Work 2” in cooperation with the Kunsthaus, Katrin Bucher-Trantow, Nadine Kröpfl and Jona Hoier.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
