Course content
Basic aspects of material science are presented in the first part of the lecture:
- Design aspects and mechanical basics:
load cases, strain, stress, Hooke's law - Solid materials with crystalline structure:
- bonds, lattice
- Alloys:
phase diagrams, structure, Fe-C system - Corrosion
- Nonferrous materials
- Materials' selection
Basic aspects of construction materials especially from the point of view of heat losses:
- Characteristics of construction and insulation materials
- Typical building elements
- Heat transmission and heat losses
- Thermal bridges
- Thermal refurbishment of buildings
- Airtightness and vapour diffusion
Learning outcomes
Basic knowledge of materials with technological relevance with their physical characteristics.
Basic knowledge of thermal characteristics of construction material and typical applications in buildings.
