Advanced Modelling and CAD

Course content

• Use of modern parametric 3-D modeling tools in product development and production.
• Methods for the efficient design of virtual components and assemblies based on concrete tasks
• Bottom-up, top-down and middle out modeling strategies and their application in product development
• Methods of data exchange within different 3-D modeling tools and criteria for importing non-native model data
• Congruent engineering methods through the use of EDM and PDM solutions
• Use of tools to cost-analyze virtual parts in the design process
• Applying tools to assess lifecycle costs and sustainability of virtual parts and assemblies in the design process

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students can:

• Work with advanced modeling tools
• Apply different methods for model and data handling of large, complex CAD assembly models
• Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different modeling structures and apply them according to specified requirements
• Import models with non-proprietary CAD data formats into CAD models and have knowledge of which neutral data exchange formats can be efficiently used in customer-supplier relationships
• Link CAD model data and BOM data using current IT tools and apply it in product development and production processes
