Course content

• BOM and data structures in product development and production
• Layout and application of BOM in different areas of a manufacturing company
• BOM structure and BOM types in the product development process
• Interaction and transfer of different BOM types within the product development process
• BOM as a parts schedule of application and their use in material requirements planning
•BOM as a tool for variant management of technical products
• Challenges in representing multiple variant products in development process and manufacturing

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students can:

• Assign different BOM types to the relevant sections of the product development process
• Organize the structure of BOMs depending on the respective purpose and independently create a needs-based BOM structure
• Link BOM data and design data using EDM solutions
• Identify interface issues between different software tools in the product development and production process and derive solution strategies
• Analyze and evaluate the possibilities of optimized BOM structures as part of Supply Chain Management
