Course content

• Evaluation and selection of manufacturing processes considering product quality, batch size and company structure
• Energy and material usage of different production processes
• Methods to optimize the manufacturing process of new products on existing production facilities
• Concepts for flexible solutions in production systems
• Low Cost Intelligent Automation for manufacturing and assembly
• Production facilities and Industry 4.0
• Start-up and optimization measures during start-up
• Transition to normal operation
• Project "case studies from training companies" of flexible solutions in production

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students are able to:
• Apply methods for the evaluation and selection of production processes, taking into account product characteristics, batch size and company structure
• Estimate and compare the energy and materials usage in different production processes
• Apply structured methods to optimize the manufacturing processes of new products in existing production facilities
• Design concepts for Flexible Solutions in production systems and Low-Cost Intelligent Automation Solutions for production and assembly
• Characterize proceedings an Problems of the Start of Production (SoP) of production facilities and develop optimization measures
• Develop organizational and methodological prerequisites for Industrie 4.0 concepts in various production sectors and evaluate the resulting economic advantages and disadvantages
