Course content

• Methods of product analysis in order to determine and describe product function and design
• Determination of functional characteristics of product assemblies and individual components
• Methods for the initial determination of materials and production processes for investigated assemblies and individual components
• Tools and methods for evaluating design solutions in terms of product function and product design
• Selection criteria for alternative materials for product assemblies and individual components examined
• Concepts for the definition of alternative manufacturing processes, taking into account product function and product structure as well as the materials used

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students can:
• Explain methods of product analysis and apply them on tangible practical examples
• Perform functional analysis of product functions and evaluate the degree of functional performance of analyzed design solutions
• Make a rough categorization of the material used in a tested component
• Identify possible production processes for the manufacturing of tested components and evaluate them in terms of product function and product costs
• Design functional alternatives for examined components and component designs
• Propose material alternatives for tested components based on the specific component requirements
• Suggest alternative production processes for tested components based on specific component requirements
