Course content

• General environmental aspects in production
• Analysis of resource efficiency of different production processes
• Presentation of emissions and energy consumption of different production processes
• Assessment of different production processes with regard to their CO2 emissions
• Raw material sources and raw material reserves of important production materials
• Approaches to the optimization of production processes towards an economically justifiable development (Zero Emission Approach)
• Possibilities for the substitution of resource- and energy-intensive production processes by alternative processes

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students are able to:

• Explain general environmental aspects of production and their influence
• Describe the resource efficiency of different production processes
• Characterize emissions and energy consumption of different production processes
• Evaluate different production processes in terms of their CO2 emissions
• Explain approaches to optimize production processes towards an environmentally sustainable development (zero emissions approach)
• Demonstrate opportunities to substitute resource- and energy-intensive production processes with alternative processes
