• learn to understand culture as a special characteristic of the social environment which can be seen as commonalities or differences in people’s lives and the extent and interaction of individual, cultural and global values within the individual..
• are made familiar with basic models for describing and comparing cultural values and behavioural patterns.
• are supported in creating awareness of their own culture and in developing respect for the cultures of others.
• are sensitised to potential intercultural misunderstandings between Central Europeans and other people living in Austria, analyse cultural incidents and apply the acquired knowledge to occupational therapy practice.
• experience and practise this content based on theoretical input, practical examples and self-experience.
In this module the students acquire basic professional methodical skills, enabling them to recognise and interpret the relationships between human action on the one hand and social and cultural factors on the other, to analyse their supporting or hindering influence on action competence and take this into account in the occupational therapy process. They learn about the effects of group dynamic processes through self-experience and learn to use them in daily therapy practice.

• examine and analyse institutional conditions, personal encounters and communicative situations typical of the health system in terms of potential intercultural problems.
