Course content

The students plan a health promotion and prevention project, implement the project and evaluate the results and the course of the process.

 The students • implement the project planned in the course of the “Occupational Therapy Process in Health Promotion/Prevention” in a relevant setting • apply the acquired project management skills in the phase of project implementation and evaluation. • apply their didactic skills in project implementation appropriate to the target group. • evaluate the measures carried out in the project and reflect on the entire process      

Learning outcomes

The students have fundamental knowledge of health promotion and prevention and can relate this knowledge to the basic assumptions of occupational therapy. They are able to plan, implement and evaluate a health promotion and prevention project for different target groups and in different settings. They relate the data and results obtained from the project to current research results, especially in the field of occupational therapy, and reflect on the results.

The students

  • know the fundamentals of health promotion and prevention and can relate this knowledge to the basic assumptions of occupational therapy and derive health promotion and prevention approaches for different target groups. 
  • have the knowledge required to improve the health and wellbeing of specific target groups and support them in competence building.
  • have knowledge about the didactic preparation of health promotion and prevention concepts.
  • can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in effective management (teamwork, negotiation, motivation, conflict resolution, decision making and problem solving) and in strategy development in a health promotion and prevention project. 
  • can relate the findings from the health promotion and prevention project to current research results, especially in the field of occupational therapy, reflect on them and integrate them in action planning . 
  • know about the tasks of occupational medicine and occupational psychology in workplace health promotion and differences to occupational therapy. 
  • apply the project management skills acquired in the health promotion and prevention project.
  • have theoretical and practical knowledge of partnership and collaboration, can involve stakeholders in the health promotion and prevention process and enable networking.
  • apply the didactic knowledge acquired in planning and implementing health promotion and prevention projects tailored to the relevant target group. 
  • know different tools to determine the needs and requirements of different target groups as part of the health promotion and prevention process and apply these in the project.
