Course content

The students
• expand their competences with the aim to independently explore, interpret and discuss the data generated on questions relevant to occupational therapy based on and related to the first Bachelor's thesis.
• can prepare a concept for answering a relevant question from the field of occupational therapy.
• receive academic supervision and support throughout their Bachelor’s thesis.
• critically discuss their considerations, approaches and conclusions in terms of the research question, results and presentation, thus promoting the academic development process.
• can put scientific findings and phenomena to use for professional and scientific development

Learning outcomes

In this module students apply principles of scientific methodology to a practical example. Open questions from the first Bachelor’s thesis are refined and empirically investigated or further explored as part of a project. The students are given an in-depth introduction to the use of empirical research methods or project work.
Cognitive level:
The students
• develop new relevant knowledge for occupational therapy.
• can relate this new knowledge to existing knowledge.
• are familiar with methods of empirical social research, quantitative research methods and methods of project management.
• are aware of the ethical challenges.
Psychomotor level:
The students
• formulate a research question and hypothesis relevant to occupational therapy.
• undertake their research in accordance with ethical principles
• apply methods of empirical social research and/or quantitative research methods and/or project management skills in data generation.
• analyse the data obtained and relate them to existing findings and the relevant research question.
• can compile and present the data obtained.
• can draw conclusions from the previous working steps and critically examine these steps and the approach taken.
• can put scientific findings and phenomena to use for professional and scientific development.
• can present the entire research process in an appropriate academic form.
Affective level:
The students
• experience themselves in the role of an occupational therapist implementing a research theme based on evidence.
