Course content
Written and spoken communication for engineering purposes: compiling short technical reports and/or documentation; email writing; specialized engineering vocabulary; meetings; presentations; communicative grammar.
Learning outcomes
In this course students will learn:
- to run and effectively participate in short group discussions in English based on engineering-related topics.
- to compile a short technical manual/technical documentation based on an in-class, model engine building workshop.
- to write professional emails on a variety of work-related topics.
- to conduct presentations, comparing and contrasting specific automotive systems and technologies, their functionalities and current applications.
- to justify material choices for a range of automotive components.
- specialized technical vocabulary relating to conventional combustion engine and vehicle systems, alternative propulsion systems, as well as engineering materials and their properties.
- grammatical and lexical structures to enable the above.

Tailor-made course script; a range of authentic literature and audio-visual background materials delivered in class or by means of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle.
Mode of delivery
Face-to-face seminar including elements of blended learning.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
English for Automotive Engineers 1 or equivalent; minimum B2 Level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Assessment methods and criteria
Continuous assessment of coursework; group writing assignment; in-class presentation; final written exam.
