Course content
Students obtain on overview of the structure and main functions of modern rail vehicles on the basis of real-world examples. Topics include:
- vehicle system technology: structure, main components
- propulsion technology: types of propulsion, elctric and non-electric power transmission
- braking technology: role of braking technology, fundementals, operating principles, brake control systems
- running gear technology: wheel forces, drives, centrifugal forces, axle arrangements
- vehicle concepts: tram and light-rail systems, regional multiple-unit trains, double-deck carriages, locomotives
