Baby care and newborn physiology 2

Course content

This course focuses on the initial care of the newborn. Birth injuries, adaptation disturbance and malformation. Experiential activities such as field trips to the phototherapy and the sleep laboratories aid in the understanding of SIDS and in understanding the prevention guidelines.

The students enhance their knowledge of the physiology and the anatomy of the newborn and the physiological changes in the first few days of life. In addition, they know the right measures to take in the case of adaptation disabilities. They are able to recognize malformations and know about the therapeutic possibilities.

Learning outcomes

2. The students can
• counsel and care for the woman in the pre-, peri –and postnatal phases as well as for the newborn and infant independently and efficiently.
• conduct professional teaching sessions in the practice setting for women and their families
• recognize psychosocial changes and development and initiate the appropriate measures
• recognize the responsibility of other health care professionals and initiate interdisciplinary intervention
