Course content

Organisations do not exist for their own sake as economic entities; in particular efficiency and effectiveness must be optimised.
• Organisational structure: historic development, types/structures of organisations/divisions/positions, regulations concerning proxies, formation of positions, job descriptions, right of instruction, formalisation, specialisation and (de-) centralisation
• Political processes in organisations and corporate culture
• Motivational aspects in organisations: motivation theories and their practical application
• Leadership and management: leadership theories and combatting stress
• Changing organisations: basic principles of change management

Learning outcomes

The students are able to
• understand the basic functions of a company, economic contexts and thought processes in business administration
• gain an overview of partial aspects of business administration, which are covered in greater depth in other lectures
• understand business activities as targeted, economic actions along the entire value added chain
• make structured business decisions based on theoretical models
• list and gauge the most important criteria for a legal form and business location
• apply the various different methods of targeted capital budgeting
• understand organisations and issues within organisations
• transfer relevant issues pertaining to proxy, job description or the right of instruction to practical solutions
• explain theories of leadership and management and approach practical problems
• explain principles of change management
• illustrate project management methods
• explain the phases of project definition, project planning and project management
