Course content

Content of Information Management 1 is deepened in the following key areas:
• Master data, functionality and organisation of accounting and logistics modules of an ERP system using the example of SAP ERP.
• Developments and trends in the field of integrated business software.
• ERP implementation projects: organisational units, master data, functionality and integration relations of an ERP system can be explained in detail, based on concrete process scenarios.
• Data migration: data migration (material master data from MS Excel to SAP) is to be exported in an exemplary manner in SAP ERP and can be resolved and conducted by means of LSMW.
• ERP Reporting: various different types of reporting can be differentiated concerning their depth of integration and data volume. ERP reporting and data warehousing are to be differentiated both in terms of content and technology.
• ERP Reporting: conduct reporting via standard analysis, flexible analysis and quick views - based on the logistics information system within the ERP system.
• Business Intelligence: there is a fundamental understanding of the structure, application purposes and function of data warehousing.
• Trends: Mobile Computing & ERP: the advantages and disadvantage of SAP Fiori and Neptune can be assessed.

Learning outcomes

The students are able to
• understand and comprehend the concept of Enterprise-Resource-Planning (ERP) systems.
• develop understanding for process-driven integrated aspects of ERP systems in an industrial environment.
• devis ERP projects and recognise critical success factors.
• distinguish between technical and business architecture of ERP systems.
• gain an overview of the market for ERP providers and know-how concerning aspects of selecting ERP systems and implementation partners.
• apply and devise core application modules for industrial enterprises.
• depict the core processes of an industrial enterprise independently in an ERP system. The focus is on integrating the materials and value flows in an enterprise.
• apply the accounting and logistics modules of state-of-the-art ERP systems such as SAP.
• devise and conduct data migration procedures.
• apply ERP standard reporting tools and distinguish them from data warehouses/business intelligence
