Information Design

Seminar, 1.00 ECTS

Course content

The students will learn basic concepts and usage of digital 3D technology. Fields of use include visualisations, still images and simulations in the graphical and artistic design process.

The course topics are:

  • Modelling of simple and medium-complexity objects

  • Creating a variety of materials and surfaces

  • Scene layout, management, optimisation and lighting

  • Simulation of realistic lighting situations

  • Still image rendering (animations are scheduled for the 2nd semester)

Learning outcomes

Students can accomplish the following:

  • Modelling, import and adjustment of 3D polygon models with medium complexity
  • Creation of realistic materials with textures
  • Creation of realistic 3D lighting scenarios
  • Combining all above points to create full 3D scenes
  • Rendering still images for all kinds of purposes

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The course will be executed with a computer. It is recommended to have your own laptop; the software MAXON CINEMA 4D will be provided free of charge. A mouse with physically separated buttons is strongly recommended - mice with touch surfaces have limitations that make them less suitable.
