Basics of Digital Media Technologies

Course content

Fundamentals of multimedia technology (2D graphics, digital video technology, compression, digital audio and 3D computer graphics), copyright, basic techniques of design thinking, usability and accessibility.

Learning outcomes

The students can name the most important digital media standards. They are able to interpret the relevant standards and describe the fundamentals of copyright law. They can name the most important data compression methods, explain their functional principles and compare their mechanisms. The students can explain the functional principles of pixel-based and vector-based programs and animation programs and assess the advantages and disadvantages as well as the impacts of the different techniques. They are able to describe the key terms of image design and editing and explain and investigate their effects using existing products..
