Placement 2
Internship, 2.00 ECTS
Course content
Students can conduct, document and evaluate the whole physiotherapeutic processes under supervision. They apply therapeutic procedures when communicating, examining and treating patients. The focus is on practicing the clinical reasoning process with a structured assessment, defining the aim of the therapy, planning and conducting interventions with the patient.
Students practice transferring specific procedures to the clinical situation, they practiced with healthy objects before. Students autonomously acquire knowledge they need for working with specific disorders that are treated at the respective internship place, with the aim to broaden their knowledge. Students actively participate in in the daily routine of physiotherapy in an inpatient or outpatient clinical setting. After the placement they can reflect their strengths and weaknesses and define the aims for the next placement.
Learning outcomes
Based on the AHP regulations (MTD-Gesetz), students can conduct physiotherapeutic processes as part of the medical process under supervision and together with the supervisor, and they can critically reflect their processes of acquiring competencies.
Students comprehend the health problem of the patient in fields they have already been taught, when being supported by experienced physiotherapists. They can identify indications or contraindications for physiotherapy, when the clinical fields have already been taught and they can react correspondingly.
They conduct the physiotherapeutic assessment by applying physiotherapeutically specific assessments, determining physiotherapeutic aims, planning therapy, and by practicing the treatment procedures with patients, they have practiced before with a model. They document, analyze and evaluate (and adapt) the course of treatment. Students conduct therapy based on practical, theoretical and scientific knowledge. They can critically question the dosage, procedures and course of therapy and adapt them to the patient's and patient group's needs. They can present their decisions using the correct register and discussing their decisions.
They communicate with all people involved, to create the therapeutic aims and the process of treatment together with the immediate environment. Students reflect their own skills and create the process of acquiring competencies actively by recognizing their own strengths and weaknesses.
