Integrated course, 2.00 ECTS
Course content
• Shearing
• Fundamentals of machining and the chip removal process
• Single- and multi-point machining:
- Turning, drilling, countersinking and reaming, milling and broaching,
sawing
• Abrasive machining:
- Grinding, honing, lapping and polishing
• Beam cutting processes and EDM
• Fundamentals of corrosion and corrosion protection
- Types of corrosion and their appearance
• Technologies and equipment for coating and preserving components
- Corrosion protection through coating and metallic coatings
- Electroplating for functional surface coatings
• Processes for changing of material properties
Learning outcomes
In this module, students are given in-depth information on the understanding of industrial production technologies. Primary shaping and forming processes such as casting or forging as starting technologies are comprehensively presented and discussed. Polymer processing, machining, coating and methods for changing material properties are explained in detail. After completing the course, students are able to:
• Select manufacturing processes taking into account material and product characteristics and present their respective advantages and disadvantages
• Analyze and evaluate manufacturing processes in technical and economical terms
• Define manufacturing processes based on specific parameters in product development processes
• Apply technological and economic calculation methods to select suitable manufacturing processes
• Create mechanical systems designs considering manufacturing criteria and boundary conditions
• Estimate manufacturing influences on the mechanical properties of structural parts in mechanical systems
• Estimate manufacturing influences on the cost of system parts and assemblies
