Project design theory and manufacturing processes
Construction practical, 2.00 ECTS
Course content
• Design of predefined machine and plant components considering
production engineering boundary conditions using CAD
• Software-supported calculation of machine parts
• Software supported cost analysis of machine parts
• Independent accomplishment of a given design project
Learning outcomes
In this module, students are given in-depth information on the understanding of industrial production technologies. Primary shaping and forming processes such as casting or forging as starting technologies are comprehensively presented and discussed. Polymer processing, machining, coating and methods for changing material properties are explained in detail. After completing the course, students are able to:
• Select manufacturing processes taking into account material and product characteristics and present their respective advantages and disadvantages
• Analyze and evaluate manufacturing processes in technical and economical terms
• Define manufacturing processes based on specific parameters in product development processes
• Apply technological and economic calculation methods to select suitable manufacturing processes
• Create mechanical systems designs considering manufacturing criteria and boundary conditions
• Estimate manufacturing influences on the mechanical properties of structural parts in mechanical systems
• Estimate manufacturing influences on the cost of system parts and assemblies
