Manufacturing processes 1

Integrated course, 2.00 ECTS

Course content

• Casting and foundry technologies
• Sintering and fundamentals of powder metallurgy
• Basics of hot and cold forming technologies
- Rolling and basics of rolling mill technology
- Free-form and drop forging
- deep drawing and sheet metal forming
- Extrusion and extrusion molding process
- Machines and plants for hot and cold forming processes
• Polymer processing

Learning outcomes

In this module, students are given in-depth information on the understanding of industrial production technologies. Primary shaping and forming processes such as casting or forging as starting technologies are comprehensively presented and discussed. Polymer processing, machining, coating and methods for changing material properties are explained in detail. After completing the course, students are able to:
• Select manufacturing processes taking into account material and product characteristics and present their respective advantages and disadvantages
• Analyze and evaluate manufacturing processes in technical and economical terms
• Define manufacturing processes based on specific parameters in product development processes
• Apply technological and economic calculation methods to select suitable manufacturing processes
• Create mechanical systems designs considering manufacturing criteria and boundary conditions
• Estimate manufacturing influences on the mechanical properties of structural parts in mechanical systems
• Estimate manufacturing influences on the cost of system parts and assemblies
