Assembly technologies
Integrated course, 2.00 ECTS
Course content
• Technologies for joining components and assemblies:
- Welding and bonding processes (welding, brazing, soldering and adhesive bonding)
- Mechanical joining processes (rivet and screw connections)
- Combined joining methods (eg: clinching and adhesive bonding)
• Systems for joining components and assemblies
- Mechanical joining, welding, soldering and adhesive bonding systems
- Handling equipment and manipulators
- Robot systems for assembly tasks
• Layout of assembly workstations
• Ergonomic criteria for assembly workstations
Learning outcomes
The students are familiar with machine tools and assembly equipment. The related information technologies are just as familiar to them as the design fundamentals of the machines and systems. Students can:
• Explain application-specific criteria of modern manufacturing and assembly facilities
• Analyze and evaluate advantages and disadvantages of different machine tool types
• Specify methods for selection and acceptance of manufacturing equipment
• Explain the criteria of static and dynamic positioning accuracy of CNC machines
• Evaluate and select different joining methods product-specifically
• Plan and define assembly processes based on the products to be manufactured
• Define criteria for the selection and design of manual workstations as well as for highly automated robot cells or collaborative robot systems
