CAD Basics

Tutorial, 3.00 ECTS

 

Course content

• Create virtual 3D components using solid modeling
• Methods of feature-based part design
• Fundamentals of parametric component modeling
• Design of assembly models based on 3D components
• "bottom up" and "top down" assembly strategies
• Application of specific tools for modeling of casted, sheet metal or
welded parts and assemblies
• Derivation of engineering drawings from 3D component models
and 3D assembly models
• Automated creation of bill of materials and cut list tables based on
assembly models

Learning outcomes

In process engineering, students should:
• acquire basic knowledge in the field of plant engineering and
process engineering
• be able to describe the basic behavior of substances and material
systems in process engineering
• acquire elementary knowledge about the design of process
engineering equipment and systems
• Explain structure and function of plant components and describe
basic selection criteria

In CAD, students should:
• After completing the course, be able to operate and use the 3D-
CAD program SolidWorks
• Build components and assemblies using 3D solid modeling
• Derive technical drawings from component and assembly models
• Use specific tools to create casted, sheetmetal or welded part
designs
• be able to create assembly designs of multi-part, multi-
subassembly modules and systems
