Medical Case Analysis in Nuclear Medicine

Integrated course, 3.00 ECTS


Course content

Examination of all relevant variables (1) of in-vivo diagnostics, (2) in-vitro diagnostics and (3) treatment in nuclear medicine under the aspect of pathophysiology.

The following fields will be addressed: bone metabolism, endocrine system, cardiovascular system, respiratory tract, urogenital tract, lymphatic system, gastrointestinal tract, haematopoietic system, oncological topics or neurological diseases. Current developments will always be taken into account. Exercise: training of medical case analysis in nuclear medicine

Learning outcomes

(XI) Competencies in nuclear medicine in the professional field of radiography
1. The graduate prepares and administers radiopharmaceutical drugs in accordance with the Medicinal Products Act and the radiation protection guidelines.
2. The graduate understands the measurement methods of nuclear medicine using gamma counters, gamma cameras, positron emission tomography (including hybrid devices) and is able to apply them in medical/scientific/ veterinary medical contexts.
3. The graduate applies nuclear medicine imaging using gamma cameras, positron emission tomography (including hybrid devices) under the aspects of radiation protection, patient safety and maximum information gain.
4. The graduate understands nuclear medicine imaging using gamma cameras, positron emission tomography (including hybrid devices) and is able to plan, implement and assess (preliminary interpretation + additional images) these examinations.

(XIII) General and specific competencies in applying ionising radiation in medicine
1. The graduate has profound knowledge of applying ionising radiation in medicine and contributes this knowledge to diagnosis and therapy for the benefit of the patient, together with other professional groups and in line with the current state of research.
2. The graduate is able to identify problems concerning the application of ionising radiation in medicine and to carry out quality assurance measures.
