After completing my Bachelor’s, I applied to the surgical clinic at the University Hospital Graz, and worked there for over four years. When my first daughter was born, I returned to my home town with my family. The Styrian Hospital Association KAGes gave me the opportunity to move to the LKH Leoben hospital, where I now work in the X-ray centre.

What I learned for this job during my studies

All of the content from my course is still relevant in practice. I use the knowledge I gained in the radiation protection lectures every day to ensure the best possible protection from radiation during examinations. The medical course content, such as anatomy, pathology, physiology etc., provide better insight into everyday processes and decisions. And a technical background is beneficial when it comes to repair and maintenance work or problem solving.

Job prospects in my field

The job opportunities are currently excellent across Austria. Radiographers are in demand everywhere. There is even an acute shortage of staff in many departments.

I am:

target-driven

creative and innovative

very good at engaging with patients

Outlook

“In radiology, always strive to use the lowest possible dose of radiation to produce an image of diagnostic quality”.

                Harald Kogelbauer

I addition to my career, I also completed a Master’s degree in Medical Physics at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern in Germany. In my current professional work at the LKH Leoben hospital, I provide support and advice to colleagues and doctors when it comes to questions of radiation protection.

From the start of my professional career with the Red Cross to my Master’s in Medical Physics and setting up my own company, it has been a long and often challenging journey.
