#Studyonline: Admission process at FH JOANNEUM during COVID-19

Update of 3 April 2020

#Studyonline: Aufnahmeverfahren an der FH JOANNEUM während COVID-19

In response to the current situation, the admissions process for the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in spring, summer and autumn 2020 will be conducted virtually.

Since in-person exams are not possible at the present time, the usual written assessment tests for the 26 Bachelor's degree programmes cannot be carried out. Instead, greater weighting will be given to school performance and especially the admissions interview. Other criteria such as the form of the application, professional experience and relevant further training will be considered as usual. The admissions process thus consists of the following three parts: application, assessment of school performance and online interview. The interview may include questions about the motivation for application, social skills and career plans and may also examine subject-specific knowledge.

The 24 Master's degree programmes will also carry out their admissions process virtually. Most of them will conduct an interview with applicants fulfilling the admission requirements and holding a relevant Bachelor's degree. For some degree programmes the written test will either be carried out online or replaced by the online interview. The online interview will be conducted online via video call. The applicant must confirm that no unauthorised aids are used and no one else is present to help. The applicant must present official photo identification at the beginning of the interview. If the current COVID-19 situation changes fundamentally, some degree programmes may decide to conduct in-person admission interviews on campus in July or August subject to official approval.

Update: The admissions interview may include questions about the motivation for application, social skills and career plans and may also examine subject-specific knowledge. Tips for the interview can be found here.

Application deadlines for all degree programmes remain unchanged

The process for online application and application by post will remain the same. This also goes for the submission of portfolios. The deadline for the summer application round is 25 May 2020. Some degree programmes also offer an autumn application round with a deadline of 17 August 2020. The secondary school leaving certificates can be submitted at any time up to 1 November 2020.

Tip:

Some degree programmes expect applicants to fulfil additional requirements. For details please go to the web page of the relevant programme.

Tip:

We encourage prospective students to use our virtual course guidance service via phone, chat, email and social media, because face-to-face interviews are currently not possible.
