Facts about studying

There are no tuition fees for students from the EU, EEA or Switzerland. Regular enrolment requires payment of the student union fees (ÖH-Beitrag) which are currently charged at €22.70 per semester. If you are looking for more information about the range of degree programmes on offer, want to find out more about your chosen career and/or need help choosing the right course, then our Study Guidance team will be happy to talk to you and offer advice, either in the Study Lounge or online. Bachelor’s degree programmes

Application dates

FH JOANNEUM offers up to six dates for applying, depending on the programme. This gives you the flexibility to apply when it suits you best and ensures that anyone who is interested has the chance to apply. Warning: not every programme offers all six dates. You will find the various application dates for the respective degree programmes below. There is a different application procedure for non-EU citizens; further information is available here, or on the individual programme webpages under the heading “International Applicants”.

Admission requirements

You need one of the following entrance qualifications to study for a Bachelor’s degree at FH JOANNEUM:

  • General university entrance qualification
  • Vocational university entrance qualification or relevant university entrance exam
  • Relevant professional qualification with additional examinations
  • Completion of the Qualification Course for University Entrance at FH JOANNEUM

Online application

You have chosen a suitable application date and have the qualifications you need to study at FH JOANNEUM. Perfect! Your first step is the online application. New applicants will need to register online. Once registered, sign in to your account, choose the degree or certificate programme you would like to apply for, and upload your application documents. If you already have an account, simply sign in and upload a new application under “My Applications”. Click here to apply online.

Application documents

Your application must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copy of your university entrance qualification
  • Proof of citizenship or a copy of your passport

If you are applying for one of the creative programmes in Information Design or Industrial Design, a collection of your work is also required (folder, portfolio). If you are applying for a programme taught in both German and English, evidence is also required that your level of language proficiency is at least B2 (e.g., secondary school leaving certificate, TOEFL or TELC certificate, Cambridge Certificate). The Study Administration team will check your documents and inform you about the progress of your application. For enquiries about your application, email bewerbung@fh-joanneum.at.

Admissions procedure

An interview is part of the admissions procedure for every programme. Some courses also require the submission of a folder and participation in an aptitude test. Others carry out an additional online test, some with their own aptitude tests. The following list indicates the category to which your chosen course belongs:

Acceptance, waiting list, or alternative application

The final result is available after the entire admission procedure has been completed. You will be informed of the result in writing whether you have been accepted, or whether you are on the waiting list. If you receive a rejection or a place on the waiting list, you may use your existing account to apply for acceptance on an alternative programme before the next application deadline.

Master’s degree programme

We offer up to seven dates for applications to a Master’s degree programme at FH JOANNEUM, giving you the maximum flexibility to apply when it suits you best. Warning: not every programme offers all seven dates. Click on the links in the following list for more details:

Attention: * The marked Master's degree programmes only offer the January deadline for third-country applicants.

Admission requirements:

FH JOANNEUM offers graduates of Bachelor’s programmes or an equivalent qualification a wide range of Master’s programmes. Applicants to a Master’s programme must meet the following conditions:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or
  • Equivalent qualification in a related field from a recognised institution of postsecondary education either in Austria or abroad

Your application must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Letter of motivation (in the language of instruction of the programme)
  • Curriculum vitae (in the language of instruction of the programme)
  • Proof you have graduated with a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
  • Transcript of records for verification of the admission requirements
  • Proof of university entrance qualification
  • Proof of citizenship or a copy of your passport
  • Evidence of adequate proficiency in English

Admissions procedure

All applicants who meet the official requirements are invited to take part in the admissions procedure. Depending on the programme, this procedure takes the form either of an admissions interview, or a written test/specific assignment and interview. The interview gives applicants the opportunity to present their knowledge of the subject, as well as their motivation, suitability and aptitude for the programme and the profession.

Depending on the programme, the form of application, professional experience and continuing professional development and training will also be considered when evaluating applications.

General information

International applicants

In principle, international applicants are subject to the same requirements as Austrian students. All applicants have an equal chance of being accepted onto a programme. However, some additional requirements apply to international applicants: In the online application you will need to provide additional proof of sufficient proficiency in the language of instruction. Special regulations apply to documents that have not been issued in Austria. The requirements will depend on the country issuing the documents. Accessibility in the admissions procedure

FH JOANNEUM offers a variety of services to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities. You can agree special arrangements for your admissions and examination procedures if you need extra time or a means of assistance on the grounds of your disability.

Programme start and enrolment

After accepting a place on the programme, you book an appointment for enrolling at your future campus. Students at Bad Gleichenberg and Kapfenberg can also enrol at the Graz campus. You will receive detailed information about enrolment when you are offered a place.
