Mag. Dr. Reingard Riener-Hofer has been working in legal research and teaching since 1994. Her focus is on public law, which she also explored in her dissertation (Legal Simplification and its Development in Austria, Scientific Series Verlag Österreich, 2001, Supervisor: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Bernd-Christian Funk). Due to her position as Institute Director and Key Researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Clinical-Forensic Imaging in Graz, forensic medical law and legal issues related to interdisciplinary clinical-forensic research are among her areas of expertise. In addition to conducting legal studies in this field and designing, acquiring, and managing national and international third-party funded projects, fostering academic networking and the inter-institutional establishment of collaborations at the national and international level is a particular focus of hers.
Dr. Riener-Hofer has been teaching at FH JOANNEUM since 2005. In 2008, she was listed as a mediator in the register of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Since July 1, 2021, she has been leading Commission 3 (responsible for Styria and Carinthia) of the Austrian Ombudsman Board. The expert commission monitors institutions where the deprivation or restriction of personal freedom can or does occur.
