Salvatore D’Ambra is currently a Legal Counsel in Banking Supervision at the Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Liechtenstein, where he is primarily responsible for the review and approval of banks, investment firms, e-money institutions, and payment institutions. He serves as a key contact for corporate governance, compliance, and particularly crypto assets in the banking sector, as well as the Internal Control System (ICS) officer within the legal department of the banking division at the FMA Liechtenstein.

Mr. D’Ambra is a trained lawyer. He studied law at the University of Innsbruck (Mag. iur.) and the University of Padua (Dottorato). Additionally, he completed academic training in financial management. He is a certified Compliance Officer (University of Liechtenstein) and a certified Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Expert (Austrian Standards).

Before joining the supervisory authority, Mr. D’Ambra worked for several years in the banking and financial sector, both in sales and operations. He initially worked in the treasury department of a large regional bank in western Austria and later became responsible for institutional clients, key accounts, and specialized financing. Subsequently, he transitioned into compliance, where he served as Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at a regional bank in Austria. In this role, he was the primary contact for the bank’s executive board on matters such as AML compliance, MiFID compliance, banking law compliance, and general legal inquiries.
