It is part of the services offered within KAIT/GreenKAIT and combines suitable working facilities with professional guidance and access to a broad network.
Laboratory Equipment
Depending on availability, the Startup Lab can be used by the hour or for an entire day. The fully equipped seminar room features a projector, flipchart, tables, chairs and the necessary connections, as well as an adjoining kitchenette. Three individual workstations in a shared office space are also available.
In addition, founders can use the general open startup area at FH JOANNEUM in Kapfenberg, which provides seating and vending machines. This also gives founders access to the relevant infrastructure at FH JOANNEUM.
Cooperation Opportunities
As part of KAIT/GreenKAIT, founders receive support in developing and implementing digital and innovative business ideas. A particular focus is placed on connecting them with relevant partners and points of contact. These include funding agencies such as SFG and AWS, the City of Kapfenberg’s location management team, the WKO Bruck-Mürzzuschlag and cluster organisations such as Green Tech Valley.
Depending on individual needs and availability, professional support is also provided on technical, legal and business-related matters as well as soft skills. The network also includes a patent attorney, while additional coaching and mentoring services are provided by ASEP.
Networking and professional guidance are offered both individually, according to specific needs, and through established formats. These include the Ideas Competition, Female Future, Open House and other events. FH JOANNEUM’s international university network also provides access to contacts at other universities and their startup centres.
Target group
The target group consists of entrepreneurs in the Upper Styria region who are pursuing digital business models and are innovative. Female entrepreneurs are particularly encouraged to apply. Sustainability projects are given priority, including through a dedicated initiative: GreenKAIT. A particularly large number of entrepreneurs come from the university sector – both students and researchers – but the centre is open to everyone in the region.
The aim is to provide start-up founders with the best possible support on their journey to self-employment, from the initial idea through to the development of a business plan and the first steps in the market.
