Hans Aubauer

Dr. Hans Aubauer is the General Director of the Social Insurance Institution for the Self-Employed (SVS). The SVS is a nationwide, profession-based insurance provider in Austria, offering comprehensive social security for all self-employed individuals, covering health, pension, and accident insurance. The institution operates nine dedicated healthcare facilities with over 1,000 beds, collaborates with 8,000 contract physicians, 3,000 dentists, and an additional 9,000 partners, serving 1.3 million customers. The SVS manages an annual budget of €10.2 billion.

Before assuming his role at SVS, Dr. Aubauer held executive positions in the private sector, leading the healthcare division for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. As an engineer and a PhD graduate in Business Administration, he worked in various industries, contributing to international post-merger integration projects for banks in Austria, Eastern Europe, Germany, and the Netherlands. He also served as a Chief Information Officer (CIO).

His expertise lies in managing complex large-scale projects in both the private sector and public administration. In addition to lecturing at various universities, Dr. Aubauer has been an active paramedic in the healthcare sector for over 30 years.

Education:Dr. Aubauer studied Electrical Engineering (specializing in Telecommunications) at the Vienna University of Technology. As part of his thesis, he collaborated with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop components for optical satellite communication. Simultaneously, he pursued a degree in Business Administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, specializing in Risk Management, Finance and Financial Markets, as well as Operations Research. His doctoral research focused on quantitative methods for corporate management. Additionally, Dr. Aubauer completed the three-year postgraduate Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program at the CFA Institute.
