Key data

Job description: Business Analyst
Company: Contrast
I work in: Vienna, Austria
I’ve worked here since: 2014
My contact

What I do

I compile competitor profiles, analyse problems at a range of companies and demonstrate potential solutions as part of a team.

Why I love my job

Continually gaining new insight into exciting companies, a high level of team motivation, project-related working and an excellent sushi bar just opposite!

Important skills in my job

  • Accuracy
  • Analytical thinking
  • Resistance to stress / high affinity for caffeine!

My biggest accomplishment so far

The best experiences in my job have always involved personal development. Whenever I have been faced with a completely new task and felt unsure of how and whether I could solve it, I was unbelievably proud when I finally brought it to a successful conclusion.

How I found my current job

The post was advertised during my Master’s course in Strategy, Innovation & Management Control at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. I submitted an official application and I was allocated the position after two rounds of interviews.

What I learned for this job during my studies at FH JOANNEUM:

I learned to work to a high level even during stressful times and in particular not to give up if a project seemed too big. My time at FH JOANNEUM made me a better team player and enabled me to achieve a greater level of accuracy in my work – both are useful skills I would not want to have missed out on!

Job prospects in my field

The entry-level opportunities as a Business Analyst are excellent. In particular, you can draw on the project experience you acquired during the International Management course and impress with the insights gained from ‘real-world’ companies, demonstrating that you know where theory and reality meet and differ.

I am

  • humorous
  • target-oriented
  • a nature lover

About my job

Working as a Business Analyst was the perfect complement to my Master’s course at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. It gave me the opportunity to build on what I had learned at FH JOANNEUM as well as gaining new impressions. Nevertheless, I would like to become self-employed over the next few years to achieve what motivates me and what I am passionate about. The insight I gained in consulting was extremely useful in identifying various problems and learning to demonstrate and understand solutions. The most important thing for me has always been to be true to myself and continue to develop.

I also completed

the double-degree Master in Strategy, Innovation & Management Control at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Vienna) and Queen’s School of Business (Kingston, Canada).

I continued my studies because…

It is important to me to further develop my specialist expertise and in particular to gain more knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship & innovation. This is helping me to feel better prepared on my journey to self-employment.

How I combined my studies with a job

To be honest, your leisure time has to take a subordinate role and you only have a few weekends to yourself but of course this has some advantages: much of the content you learn resurfaces in your work and so you don’t need to keep rehearsing it for exams. The work also provides you with knowledge of other fields and so it is easier to understand any problems which emerge in case studies. And finally, the importance of financial independence cannot be underestimated.
